Dear Acupressure Friends, Many are heading into the winter season when it is vital to protect yourself from the wind, cold and dampness. Boosting your immune system and keeping your energy flowing is an effective way to ward off many winter ills. Of course, what you eat is important for staying healthy. Did you know that eating too many sweets and cold foods can make your body receptive to catching colds, flus and sore throats? A tea made for fresh ginger root (available in produce markets) can provide your body with internal warmth and acts as a local antibiotic to counteract bacteria and a sore throat. Your shoulders may ache when a cold is about to come on. Try using Acupressure above the tip of your shoulder blades. Apply firm pressure on these shoulder points (TW15) for a few minutes with deep breathing for immune boosting, stress reduction, and to boost your resistance to a cold.
As soon as you feel a cold coming on, place tennis balls on these points shown above, inside the upper tip of your shoulder blades. Apply pressure with the weight of your body, whether you're sitting or lying down. Breathe deeply as these points are pressed for 2 to 3 minutes. Let yourself deeply relax with your eyes closed for 5 minutes immediately afterward to gain the full benefits, and allow your body's energy to balance. I hope this Acupressure tip is helpful for you and your community. Here's an illustrated article if you want more information on using Acupressure for relieving colds, flu and a sore throat. http://acupressure.com/articles/colds_and_flu.htm Please take care of yourself.
